Jayam Ravi’s ‘Brother’ and Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Amaran’ are set to clash at the box office, this Diwali

While Rajesh's film is an emotional family drama, Rajkumar Periasamy's film is a biographical action drama.

Actor Jayam Ravi, known for Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 (2023), Iraivan (2023), and Siren (2024), is collaborating with director M Rajesh of Siva Manasula Sakthi (2009) and Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (2012) for a film, titled Brother.

Set to release on Diwali, the Jayam Ravi starrer, will lock horns with Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran, also scheduled for 31 October.

Jayam Ravi announced the release date and shared a poster on social media.

Brother features Priyanka Mohan as the female lead, with Natty, Bhumika, Saranya Ponvannan, Ganesh, Seetha, Achyuth Kumar, and Rao Ramesh, in supporting roles.

Harris Jayaraj, who had previously collaborated with Rajesh for Oru Kal Oru Kannadi and with Ravi in films like Dhaam Dhoom (2008), Engeyum Kadhal (2011) and Vanamagan (2017), is composing music for Brother. Bankrolled by Screen Scene Media Entertainment Private Limited, the film features cinematography by Vivekanand Santhosh and editing by Abisish Joseph.

Brother is a family drama, filmed in locations such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Ooty, and Kodaikanal.

 Meanwhile, Jayam Ravi has several upcoming projects. He will star in Thani Oruvan 2 with Nayanthara, directed by Mohan Raja. Further, he will appear in Genie alongside Krithi Shetty, Kalyani Priyadarshan, and Wamiqa Gabbi, directed by Arjunan, a former assistant to Mysskin. Additionally, he will feature in Kadhalikka Neramillai, directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi.

On the other hand, Sivakarthikeyan’s biographical action drama Amaran, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, was the first to announce a Diwali release.

 Amaran features Sivakarthikeyan as Major Mukund Varadarajan, a martyred Indian Army officer from the 44 Rashtriya Rifles Cheetah Company who was killed in Shopian, Kashmir, in April 2014. He was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry honour.

The film stars Sai Pallavi as the female lead, with music by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography by CH Sai, and editing by Kalaivanan. Amaran is also produced by Sony Pictures Films India and R Mahendran.
