Sarfira, starring Akshay Kumar, hit the screens on 12 July, alongside Shankar’s Indian 2, featuring Kamal Haasan. Despite a slow start with an initial collection of ₹2.5 crore on its first day, Sarfira experienced a significant 70% surge in box office earnings on day 2.
According to Sacnilk, the film grossed ₹4.25 crore on 13 July, bringing its total earnings to ₹6.75 crore.
Following the disappointing performance of Akshay Kumar’s previous film, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2024), Sarfira aims to recover with stronger numbers.
However, the film’s true test begins on 15 July, gauging its reception amidst positive word-of-mouth.
Sarfira, the Hindi remake of the 2020 Tamil film, Soorarai Pottru starring Suriya, is directed by Sudha Kongara, who also helmed the original.
In an interview, Akshay Kumar revealed that it took them a while to build a connection with each other.

In an interview with Galatta Plus, when asked about the initial day of filming Sarfira, Akshay Kumar commented, “The first day of shoot… It always takes time for the actor to sync with the director’s approach. I had to adapt to her working style. It took a bit of time on Sarfira, maybe five or six days. After that, everything went smoothly.”
The Bollywood actor added that Sudha is a filmmaker who sets up her camera and instructs actors on the specific inputs she requires.
“Most directors ask, ‘Tell me what you’re going to do, and I’ll move the camera accordingly’. However, Sudha told me what I had to do, not the other way around.”
In an earlier interview with the same portal, Sudha Kongara shared that she and Akshay initially took time to establish a rapport.
She explained, “Suriya is Suriya. I’ve known him for over 25 years, making it easier to communicate what I want. However, with Akshay sir, we start with a ‘sir’, since it was our first meeting. The first six days weren’t satisfactory for him. It was like, ‘Why is this girl making me do all this rubbish?’ As a result, he and the producer approached me, and I told them, ‘You do what you like, and I will guide you when things don’t go smoothly’.”
Sudha admitted she initially struggled because she had envisioned the perfect Maara (portrayed by Suriya in Soorarai Pottru) and thought no one could match him. She later realised she was limiting Akshay, who had his unique approach.
Sarfira, written by Sudha and Shalini Ushadevi with dialogues by Pooja Tolani, features music by GV Prakash Kumar. The film is produced by Aruna Bhatia (Cape of Good Films), along with Suriya-Jyotika (2D Entertainment), and Vikram Malhotra.
