Here's why Kamal Haasan won't host Bigg Boss Tamil Season 8

As previously speculated by South First, Kamal Haasan will not host Season 8 of Bigg Boss Tamil. The veteran actor-politician announced on X he is stepping back from the show to take a break, due to prior cinema-related commitments.

Kamal Haasan has been the host of the popular reality show since its inception seven years ago.

The news came as a disappointment for fans who were looking forward to seeing him host this year. However, others are pleased that he is engaged in film projects.

While Kamal Haasan announced his decision, the makers of Bigg Boss Tamil are yet to reveal the new host.

In 2022, Kamal Haasan opted out of hosting Bigg Boss Ultimate, a spin-off of Bigg Boss Tamil, citing scheduling conflicts, due to delays in the shoot of Vikram (2022) caused by the lockdown. However, he later returned to host Bigg Boss Tamil Season 6.

Bigg Boss Ultimate was a unique Tamil reality show that offered real-time streaming of the Bigg Boss house, with 24×7 footage available on Disney+ Hotstar. Actor Silambarasan hosted this first-ever OTT exclusive season of the popular reality show, which premiered in January 2022.

Kamal Haasan previously described Bigg Boss Tamil as a social experiment.

He noted, “I saw the platform as a chance for personal growth. Despite advice against television, the show’s demographic and the opportunity to connect with viewers were significant draws for me. I had turned down earlier offers from the same channel, but this time, it felt like the right fit and a mutually beneficial arrangement.”

Before the first season launched, Kamal Haasan told the media, “I will leave when I lose my enthusiasm. I don’t put on a façade; I remain true to myself, both on and off camera, simply being who I am in the roles I play.”

Kamal Haasan took on the role of host for Bigg Boss Tamil amid the fallout from the Viswaroopam franchise’s failure in 2018, surprising many, by making a strong comeback with Vikram, which restored him to the limelight.

Starting his career at age five, Kamal Haasan explored virtually every role imaginable but remains driven. His upcoming projects include Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life, an untitled film with H Vinoth, and Indian 3.

Further, KH237 will be directed by action choreographer-duo Anbariv and produced by Haasan and R Mahendran under Raaj Kamal Films International. The rest of the cast and crew for KH237 are expected to be announced soon.
