Director H Vinoth confirms final film with Vijay before the actor fully enters politics

Director H Vinoth has confirmed that his next project, Thalapathy 69, will be Vijay’s final film before entering politics.

Speaking at an award show in Chennai, Vinoth assured fans that it will be “200 percent a Thalapathy film”, designed as a commercial entertainer appealing to all age groups.

He also emphasised that the film won’t target any political party or leader.

Vijay, who recently launched his political party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) and announced plans to contest in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, stated that his 69th film would be his last before fully committing to politics.

Vinoth, known for directing Sathuranga Vettai (2014), Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017) and three films with Ajith—Nerkonda Paarvai (2019), Valimai (2022), and Thunivu (2023)—spoke about the differences between Ajith and Vijay, describing Ajith as an “abstract thinker” and Vijay as a “simple thinker”.

An official announcement regarding Thalapathy 69 is expected soon.

Vinoth was initially set to collaborate with Kamal Haasan, but it’s rumoured that the project will follow the Vijay film.

Meanwhile, Vijay’s 68th film, The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) under the direction of Venkat Prabhu, is set to release in theatres on 5 September. The film features Prabhudheva, Prashanth, Sneha, and Laila in key roles.

With the release of GOAT just around the corner, fans are excited but also bittersweet, knowing there will be only one more Vijay film before he shifts his focus to politics.

GOAT is backed by AGS Entertainment, with its trailer set to launch on 17 August at 5 pm.

In an interview, H Vinoth spoke about working with Ajith, saying, “Though I lack extensive experience, working with him was easier and more comfortable than with a newcomer. He ate the same food as the crew and would personally address any issues. Initially, we wondered if he was acting to maintain his image, but spending time with him reveals that this is truly who he is. He makes you feel like a friend while ensuring no one takes advantage of his friendliness.”
