Four years after Karnan, actor Dhanush, and director Mari Selvaraj are set to collaborate once again for a new film tentatively titled D56. The film will be produced by Ishari Ganesh under Vels Films International.
While the collaboration was in news in 2023, the project has been officially announced on Wednesday, 9 April, by the production house.
The film was earlier reported to be produced by Dhanush under his banner Wunderbar Films.
Sharing the announcement poster on X, Vels Films International wrote on X: “They made history. Now, they’re back to rewrite it. Vels Film International is thrilled to announce our NEXT — ONE BIG COLLABORATION: Dhanush × Mari Selvaraj.”

Sharing the same news, director Mari Selvaraj wrote: “Overwhelmed to celebrate the 4th year of a journey forged by Karnan’s Sword! Thanks to everyone who celebrated and supported Karnan throughout the years!! Also, I am exhilarated to say that my next project is once again with my dearest Dhanush K Raja sir! This has been soaking in my mind for quite sometime now and I am very excited to be joining hands with him once again! This is my first with Ishari K Ganesh sir and I can’t be any happier! Their previous venture Karnan, is a powerful socio-political drama set in a rural village where the oppressed community, led by the fearless Karnan (Dhanush), stands up against systemic injustice and police brutality.
While Dhanush has Kuberaa, by Sekhar Kammula, Tere Ishk Mein, by Aanand L Rai, in the pipeline, Mari Selvaraj is working on Bison: Kaalamaadan, a sports drama film that stars Dhruv Vikram and Anupama Parameswaran
