Atlee in talks with Salman Khan and Kamal Haasan for an action thriller

Following the success of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (2023), Tamil filmmaker Atlee has solidified his reputation in Bollywood as a trusted name.

Many fans eagerly anticipate his next film, wondering whom he will direct next and whether it will be in Tamil or Bollywood.

Amid speculation, talks of Atlee teaming up with Kamal Haasan are circulating. Initially, reports suggested the Mersal (2017) director would helm an action film starring Salman Khan and Rajinikanth. While Rajinikanth’s participation remains uncertain, Atlee began discussions with Kamal Haasan.

Billed as a high-budget action thriller, Atlee’s film received favourable feedback from both Salman Khan and Kamal Haasan during these discussions. While both actors are interested, their final decision hinges on Atlee’s script presentation later this month.

Final agreements are expected after the actors listen to the full narration.

Rumours hint at a potential two-hero feature film that demands a superstar presence. Kamal Haasan and Salman Khan were impressed by Atlee’s idea and eagerly anticipate collaborating on this project.

Many details about the project have been kept confidential. The film is scheduled to begin production in 2025. It will reportedly be produced by Sun Pictures.

Atlee’s love for Kamal Haasan

Meanwhile, at the Mumbai promotional event for Indian 2, Atlee (a former assistant to director Shankar) expressed his desire to collaborate with Kamal Haasan, whom he praised as a revered authority and repository of Indian cinema.

Atlee said, “If my son and I ever want to learn about Indian cinema, we just need to study Kamal sir’s work. You are an encyclopedia of cinema. One day, I hope to collaborate with you, sir. I’ll develop a script and approach you.”

He also mentioned that Shankar shared the idea for Indian 2 with him when he worked as his assistant, a decade ago.

“I was inspired to enter cinema by watching Kamal Haasan’s films, particularly Indian (1996). Now, I eagerly await the release of Indian 2. It has been a long wait, but I believe it will be a landmark film in Indian cinema, and we will all be immensely proud of it.”
