Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced their separation on Tuesday, 19 November, after 29 years of marriage.
In a statement released to the press on Tuesday, Saira Banu said, “After many years of marriage, I have made the difficult decision to separate from my husband, AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional stress in our relationship.”

Saira Banu’s statement further emphasized that they had taken this decision out of pain and agony, and requested “privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as they navigate this difficult chapter in their life.”
