Actor and Karate instructor Shihan Hussaini succumbs to cancer

Karate instructor and actor Shihan Hussaini passed away on Tuesday, 25 March, at his residence in Chennai, while battling cancer.

Shihan Hussaini, fondly known as HU was 60 years old and left behind his wife and daughter.

The actor’s family shared the news through his Facebook. They wrote: “I’m very sad to inform that HU has left us. HU will be at the High Command, his residence at Besant Nagar until evening.”

They further wrote: “As per the doctor’s advice, HU’s mortal body will leave from his house at 2 pm and his final ritual will be done today at 4 pm in the Royapettah Ameerunisa Burial ground, Chennai. Archers come in your uniform. Karatekas come in your Gi. Students are requested to be at High command by 12 pm”

Mortal remains to be donated for research

Earlier, as he was hospitalized, Shihan Hussaini announced that his mortal remains would be donated for medical research.

He had wrote on his Facebook page, “The Dean of Sri Ramachandra Medical University & Research Institute, Dr. Balaji, sent me a consent form for body donation, which I signed. This donation will be used for teaching anatomy to medical students. I am very happy to contribute to education, even after my death. I thank Dance Master Kala for taking the initiative to connect with Dr. Balaji and facilitate this process. Preparing for death but not giving up!”

In the video, Husseini had informed, “The body will be in the freezer for three days at the ‘high command’, after which it will be donated to the college. The heart alone will be returned to my students.”

As an actor, he made his acting debut with Kamal Haasan’s Punnagai Mannan in 1986 and then acted in Rajinikanth‘s Velaikaran (1987).

His other films include Bloodstone, Unnai Solli Kutramillai, Badri, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, Chennai City Gangsters, and Vedan.

Plea to students

He had also trained actors Pawan Kalyan, and Vijay, whom he reached out to earlier to promote his vision for martial arts and archery.

Addressing Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan he said, “A REQUEST TO MY KARATE STUDENT WHO I TRAINED @ AWARDED BLACK BELT. AND GAVE THE NAME ‘ PAWAN ‘. Now Dept chief minister of Andhra. The karate dojo you trained for 2 years is up for Sale. It will be a 36-year-old monument of martial arts and fine arts which might be demolished and built into a flats. Dont let it happen. Preserve it for posterity. ”

Similarly in a plea to TVK Chief Vijay, he noted, “I wish Vijay would support my vision of having an archery enthusiast in every Tamil household and ensure that someone from the state represents the nation at the Olympics,”
