‘Sureshanteyum Sumalathayudeyum Hridhayahariyaya Pranayakadha’ is a spin-off movie, says director Ratheesh

Sureshanteyum Sumalathayudeyum Hridhayahariyaya Pranayakadha is the first spin-off movie in Malayalam, according to Ratheesh Balakrishnan. While speaking to the media after the switch-on function of the movie, he said that the movie has main characters from his previous film Nna Thaan Case Kodu. Sureshan and Sumalatha are a young couple who appear at a key moment in the movie. 

Spin-off 

Spin-off films are based on characters from other films, television programmes or books. This is something new in Malayalam films. Earlier, in 2015, Chirakodinja Kanavukal (Dreams with broken wings) became the first-ever Malayalam parody film.

Ratheesh Balakrishnan said the funny moments of Suresh and Sumalatha in Nna Thaan Case Kodu were appreciated by the audience. Asked if there were plans to do a separate movie with the characters of Sureshan and Sumalatha much earlier, Ratheesh said the plans came only at a later, when Nna Thaan Case Kodu and the duo got recognition.

Save the date video

A save-the-date video featuring Rajesh Madhav and Chithra Nair was released on social media as a promotional activity. Initially, people didn’t understand the reality, as no mention of the movie was present in the video.

In the funny video, two are courting each other as they run around in colourful attire. Social media folks expressed their happiness about the two “joining” in real life. 

Later they dropped yet another post on social media, which said that the duo are tying the knot on 29 May.

Wedding card

Rajesh Madhavan, in his social media, posted the wedding card which read, “Slow steady wins the love. A Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval event.”

On the card, it was written, “Invitation – Shri Sudhakaran Nair and Smt. Prameela Nair, solicit your esteemed presence to grace the auspicious occasion of the union of our daughter Sumalatha S Nair and Sureshan Kavumthazhe, S/O Late. Shri Shekaran Kavumthazhe, on Monday, 29th May 2023 (1198 IDAVAM 15), 9:30 AM at Payyanur College. With the best compliments from Silver Bay Studio and Silver Bromide Pictures. An event by Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval.”

The event was held today at Payyannur College in Kannur district. Ratheesh’s films are based in the Kannur and Kasargod areas which form the northern part of Kerala.

 Nna Thaan Case Kodu, the original film which had these two characters, was a super hit at the Kerala box office.

Sureshanteyum Sumalathayudeyum Hridhayahariyaya Pranayakadha, is produced by Silver Bay Studio and Silver Bromide Pictures.

The movie is written by Ratheesh Balakrishnan, and the music is composed by Don Vincent. The movie is co-produced by Ratheesh Balakrishnan, JK and Vivek Harshan.
