Mystery surrounds Sun Pictures’ announcement that it is bankrolling the 50th film of Dhanush. The project is said to be titled Rayan.
While the announcement did not give any details and instead asked us to wait for updates, Kollywood circles are thinking of three possibilities.
One is that the film would be directed by Dhanush himself. Also, he would act alongside SJ Suryah, Kalidas Jayram and Vishnu Vishal.
Another possibility is that the movie would be a sequel to Vada Chennai directed by Vetrimaaran. The 2008 release was produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar banner.
The third possibility is that the project would be directed by H Vinoth since he himself confirmed that he would be directing Dhanush in his next.
Meanwhile, Dhanush is currently busy with Captain Miller, directed by Arun Matheswaran. Priyanka Mohan is the leading lady.
He also signed a pan-Indian film with Sekhar Kammula. He is awaiting the release of Tamil-Telugu bilingual Vathi/Sir.
Earlier, Sun Pictures produced Dhanush’s Thiruchitrambalam which became one of the blockbuster hits of 2022.
The makers of Thalaikoothal released the film’s teaser on 18 January and it’s already creating quite a buzz on social media for its bold subject. The movie is directed by Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan who is famous for his acclaimed films Lens and The Mosquito Philosophy.
The film is about the traditional practice of senicide (killing of the elderly) or involuntary euthanasia, by their own family members. It is practised in some parts of the southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
The teaser featured Samuthirakani taking care of an old man while many others talk about the ways to kill the bedridden person.
Vasundhara Kashyap (of Thenmerku Paruvakaatru and Poraali fame), and Kathir, are also part of the cast.
Produced by Shashikant’s YNot Studios, Thalaikoothal‘s music is composed by Kannan Narayanan.
Martin Donraj is the cinematographer. Dani Charles is the editor and Yugabharathi is the lyricist.
Director-actor Venkat Prabhu’s maiden Telugu-Tamil bilingual film Custody with Naga Chaitanya and Krithi Shetty unveiled the first look of the heroine.
The production company, Srinivasa Silver Screen, revealed that the character’s name is Revathy.
Arvind Swami is playing the baddie in the film which also features Priya Mani, Sarathkumar, Ramki, Premgi, Vennela Kishore, Sampath and Premi Vishwanath in key roles.
Yuvan, a regular in Venkat Prabhu’s films, is jointly scoring the music with his father Illaiyaraaja. Kathir is handling the cinematography. Custody will be released on 12 May.
