Sudha Kongara’s next is a biopic on renowned Indian industrialist Ratan Tata. It will go on the floors by the end of 2023. The actors who are likely to portray the industrialist could be Abhishek Bachchan or Suriya, a source close to the filmmaker told South First.
Recent reports suggested that National Award winners Keerthy Suresh and Sudha are in talks for an upcoming project. Also, Hombale Films teamed up with Sudha for a film based on true events.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that Hombale Films is also in talks with Anish Chandy to acquire the OTT and filming rights for the forthcoming biopic on Ratan Tata.
Chandy holds the rights to the official biography of Ratan Tata, Ratan N Tata: The Authorized Biography, which was authored by Dr Mathew IAS.
The publishing rights held by Harper Collins were reportedly sold for ₹2 crore.
According to the publisher (Harper Collins), Ratan N Tata: The Authorized Biography is a comprehensive account of Ratan Tata’s life.
“The book includes unknown details and fascinating stories from his formative years, the time he spent in America as a student, his return to India and his early tenure with the Tata Group.”
“It leads up to the inspiring and engaging documentation of Tata’s business strategies, leadership vision and personal integrity that have shaped the Group,” said a release.
Incidentally, Sudha’s Soorarai Pottru is a biopic on Captain GR Gopinath, founder of the low-cost airline — Simply Deccan (formerly known as Air Deccan). It was based on the autobiography Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey.
The autobiography’s rights were acquired by Guneet Monga who collaborated with Suriya-Jyothika’s production house 2D Entertainments to bring out the movie.
Soorarai Pottru won five National Awards and was dubbed in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi languages, too.

Sudha assisted Mani Ratnam for seven years. Her Tamil film Irudhi Suttru (2016) with Madhvan was a commercial hit and was shot simultaneously in Hindi as Saala Khadoos. The movie was remade in Telugu as Guru with Venkatesh.
The three versions featured Ritika Singh, a debut, as the female lead. This led to her teaming up with actor Suriya for the critically acclaimed Soorarai Pottru.
