Mammooty’s latest release Rorschach collected Rs 20 crore globally and Rs 10 crore from Kerala alone in the first week of its release.

It was released in Europe and Australia on Friday, 14 October. The flick received excellent openings in the Middle East, the US, the UK and Saudi Arabia.

Apart from the current 219 screens in Kerala, it will be screened in 19 more theatres this week.

The crime thriller, however, unwittingly reopened a heated debate about how movies are propelling the crime rate in society. The recent gruesome killing of two women, reportedly as part of black magic, apparently sparked the debate in Kerala.

Actor Mammootty, who objected to such biased statements, said: “I cannot accept the angle that crimes are increasing because of films that showcase crimes. Films do not corrupt anybody or make them go astray.”

He was responding to specific media question during the success meet of Rorschach organised by the makers recently.

“There is a bad and a good side to every man. Look at the recent crime (human sacrifices). Can you believe that the accused, who is respectable in the society and loved by everyone around him, can do such a heinous act?” the actor questioned.

“Crimes took place on earth even much before cinema was invented. So, I cannot accept the argument that films are responsible for creating criminals,” he asserted.

Made with a low budget, Rorschach is riding on the acting prowess of Mammootty, who played Luke Antony in the movie. He is also the producer of this crime thriller.

Mammootty is producing two more experimental films. One of them is Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery of Jallikattu fame. The movie will hit the theatres after a screening at the Kerala Film International Festival.

His forthcoming flick, Christopher, is a commercial entertainer starring Amala Paul as the female lead.

Meanwhile, Mammootty’s Bheeshma Parvam, a blockbuster hit, is likely to be remade by Chiranjeevi in Telugu. His Puzhu, a psychological drama, too won critical acclaim.

Well, 2022 has been quite an eventful year for the versatile actor!

“The first part of Ponniyin Selvan directed by Mani Ratnam was released on 30 September. I played the role of Poonguzhali in the period drama. I am encouraged by the compliments coming from unexpected places,” an excited Aishwarya told South First.

Her Telugu film, Ammu, which is currently under production, will be released on Amazon Prime Video on 19 October. Aishwarya Lekshmi is the leading lady in it.

“My Malayalam film Kumari will hit the theatres on 28 October. After bankrolling Sai Pallavi’s Gargi, I’m yet again donning the hat of a producer for Kumari. I’m also playing the title role.”

She will also be seen in the Tamil movie Gatta Kusthi opposite Vishal and an untitled film directed by Priya, starring Ashok Selvan and Vasanth Ravi.

The actor finished the shoot of Mammootty’s Christopher and Dulquer Salmaan’s King of Kotha.

Daali Dhananjay’s Head Bush releasing for Diwali

Even as Kantara is creating waves at the box office, the Kannada film trade is upbeat about Head Bush, a biopic on Bengaluru’s first don-MP Jayaraj.

The film is considered to be a sure-shot winner as ‘Daali’ Dhananjay plays the central character. The actor is identified with the name of the role (Daali) he essayed in the super-hit flickTagaru.

Meanwhile, the teaser of Head Bush is looking promising and Dhananjay is believed to have delivered an intense performance. He recently appeared in Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise.

Head Bush is written by Agni Sreedhar who earlier scripted two noted gangster films: Aa Dinagalu (2007) and Edegarike (2012).

Director Sreedhar told mediamen recently that the flick is not a documentary and is mostly based on true incidents. Many real-life politicians, gangsters and police officials will appear in guest roles in it.

Sreedhar is believed to have studied the psychology of several gangsters before making Head Bush. The movie talks about Bengaluru, and how a common man evolved into a gangster.

Meanwhile, actor Yogi (Loose Mada-fame) is confident that he would become popular by the name of his character ‘Ganga’, a trustworthy friend of the hero in Head Bush.

V Ravichandran, Vasishta N Simha, Sruthi Hariharan, Payal Rajput, and Raghu Mukherjee are playing significant roles in it. Daali Pictures in collaboration with Somanna Talkies is producing the flick.

The movie promotions began in Chennai recently. The team also visited Dubai a few days ago. ‘Daali’ Dhananjay was seen sporting the same 70’s look during the promotional events.
