Tollywood Superstar Mahesh Babu and Kollywood filmmaker AR Murugadoss teamed up for the first time in 2017 for the Telugu film Spyder.

The Telugu-Tamil bilingual was released on 27 September amid massive expectations. However, it turned out to be a box-office dud.

NV Prasad and Tagore Madhu produced the film under the banner of NVR Cinema LLP and Reliance Entertainment with a whopping budget of around ₹125 crore.

Spyder started receiving negative talk from the first show itself.

Soon after the release, Mahesh Babu fans criticised Murugadoss for reportedly downplaying the actor with a distasteful story and by elevating SJ Suryah, who played the antagonist in the movie.

Some even commented that it was a disgrace for Mahesh to score a flop by joining hands with a Tamil director.

Spyder left huge losses for buyers, too!

Nevertheless, irrespective of the result of the film, director Murugadoss stated several times that he enjoyed the journey of Spyder.

It is learnt that Murugadoss prepared a different script keeping Mahesh Babu in view. Since Mahesh Babu was busy with film shoots, Thalapathy Vijay grabbed the offer — Thuppaki (2012). And the film changed the phase of his career.

Later, Murugadoss reportedly tried to convince Mahesh to work on the remake of Thuppaki. But the Telugu Superstar didn’t want to do a remake. Instead, he asked the filmmaker to do a straight Telugu flick.

That’s how Spyder manifested. But unluckily, it scored was a disaster at the box office.
