Saarthak, Kaashima Rafi and Urvashi Jayan nail it with their scintillating performances; brilliant direction by Naresh Kumar.
South Indian Hero (Kannada)
Everyone has their favourite actor whom they admire. Some “die-hard fans” go beyond just admiration. For them, these star actors are demigods!
South Indian Hero, directed by Naresh Kumar who delivered hits like First Rank Raju and Raju Kannada Medium, is one of the most sensible films made on movie stardom and its effects.
It opens up with a star actor who has been missing for the past few days. His fans are worried and so is the government which is under pressure to trace him. A special officer is deputed to solve the missing case.
The story unfolds as the officer continues his inquiry, questioning possible suspects behind the case.
This unravels how a school physics teacher who questioned everything in life with a logical mindset ends up becoming a star hero and eventually the No.1 actor in the South Indian film industry.
There is also a cute love story, behind the scenes of making commercial movies, the rivalry between star actors, and so on.
Then, what made Lucky (Saarthak) go missing, and will he ever return as a hero? That’s the crux of the tale with logical answers to it in the climax.
How often do we see sequences in a typical Indian commercial film wherein a hero single-handedly fights dozens of villains without a scratch on his body?
With every punch he delivers, the bad guys fly miles in the air. Sounds illogical but the audience loves them.
The current example is Pathaan starring Shah Rukh Khan which has earned over a whopping ₹1,000 crore worldwide.
Here, in this film, one may find a better answer to why it is so. The credit goes to director Naresh who brilliantly wrote it for the screen through his characters, especially of Lucky.
In toto, South Indian Hero holds a mirror to the harsh realities of the glamourous image of the film industry and its nitty-gritty. It’s like a movie is made to touch the hearts of the audience irrespective of logical sense.
The three main leads surprisingly impress the most with their honest portrayal of characters.
Saarthak delivers the best as a teacher who rises to star status. His logical thinking and his shades as a lover and as a man with a good heart elevate the experience of watching South Indian Hero.
This also affirms that the director is always the real hero in the movie-making process.
The songs and the humour part are an added flavour to this sensible film.
South Indian Hero has almost everything that is required for good entertainment.
It’s a must-watch for all the die-hard fans of Indian movie stars. A word of advice to them is to not miss the climax part until it hits the closing credits in the end.
