Soundara Raja smoked almost 500 cigarettes in 15 days for his role in ‘Raid’!

The Tamil actor, who had quit smoking, says he had to revive the habit for the sake of his role in the film.

Well-known character artiste Soundara Raja, who plays one of the two important antagonists in director Karthi’s upcoming action entertainer Raid, has revealed that he smoked around 500 cigarettes for his role in the film.

The movie, which features actors Vikram Prabhu and Sri Divya in the lead, has dialogues by well-known director Muthaiya. Muthaiya is best known for his explosive and action-packed rural entertainers.

Sources say that Raid is the Tamil remake of the Kannada film Tagaru (2018), headlined by Dr Shiva Rajkumar.

In an exclusive chat with South First, Soundara Raja disclosed, “In Raid, Rishi Rithvik and I play the villains. We are close friends in the film, and my character is kind of unique. ”

He revealed more details. “I play a gangster in Raid. It is a negative role with shades of positivity in it. my character is that of a person who will do anything for the sake of friendship. He is also a poet at heart.”

Soundara Raja, who had quit smoking, said he had to revive the habit for the sake of his role in the forthcoming flick.

“As I play a poet-gangster, the director wanted to show me constantly smoking. Generally, poets often smoke to get inspired, and the director wanted me to get into the skin of the character,” the actor said.

As a result, there were days when Soundara Raja ended up smoking almost 50 cigarettes!

“In all, I shot for 15 days for the film. During that period, I would have smoked anywhere close to 500 cigarettes,” the actor shrugged.
