A statement by playback singer KS Chithra on the Ram temple in Ayodhya has put her in trouble as the veteran musician has been facing social media attacks over her comments.

Chithra had commented regarding the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple.

She had asked people to chant Lord Ram hymns on 22 January. In the evening she also asked to light lamps in and around their homes.

In the video message posted on Sunday, 14 January, Chithra states, “My salutations to all. Everybody should chant the Ram mantra ‘Sri Rama, Jayarama, Jaya Jaya Rama’ at 12:20 pm when the consecration ceremony is held in Ayodhya on January 22. Similarly, in the evening, five-wick lamps should be lit in all parts of the house.”

She also said: “Praying that God’s blessings may be showered upon everyone. Loka samastha sukhino bhavanthu”.

The right-wing supporters supported the video, which was giving them a boost. However, the post by Chithra faced vile attacks after it went viral. Some even said the post wasn’t expected from a celebrated singer.

After all these happenings, singer G Venugopal has come out in support of Chithra.

“I have known KS Chithra for around 50 years. She has been singing for the past 40 years and has not been involved in any controversies. The online comments against her on her statements on the Ayodhya Temple is disheartening. She is a cherished singer and has sung numerous songs. She hasn’t shown any political alienation before. If you hold differing opinions, can’t we simply forgive her? Please try and not hurt her,” said Venugopal in his Facebook post.
