The Palace Grounds in the city of Bengaluru wore a festive look on 10-11 September after a galaxy of stars from the South Indian film industry – Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada – along with a couple of Bollywood bigwigs descended upon the venue to participate in the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA 2022) ceremony.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of SIIMA and hence the celebrations doubled up. This is the first time that the award function was hosted in Bengaluru. Here are some of the highlights:

Star of SIIMA awards

Ranveer Singh stole the hearts of the crowds in Bengaluru. His jig for the superhit Pushpa number Sreevalli had the auditorium going delirious. The Bollywood actor had the Kannadadigas eating out of his hands when he said that he would speak in Kannada for his wife Deepika Padukone’s happiness. The video is going viral.

Yash’s mass entry

The entire venue reverberated with frenzied fans airing slogans when KGF star Yash arrived at the Palace Grounds along with his wife Sadhika Pandit. Shutterbugs trampled on each other and bouncers had a tough time escorting the couple inside. Slogans in Kannada hailing Yash as “The son of the soil” rose from the galleries.

Suriya’s fans disappointed

Tamil superstar Suriya fans were livid that his flick Jai Bhim did not win awards in any category. It was seen as a big snub by the SIIMA. Jai Bhim was in running for the Oscars and was hailed by critics worldwide. It was also a huge hit on OTT.

Interestingly, the judges did not even consider Liziemol and Manikantan, who played supporting roles in the film, for the awards. Following this, Suriya’s admirers went amok on social media blasting the SIIMA 2022 panel.

Thalaivii bags awards

Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut won the best actress in a leading role award for her Tamil film Thalaivii. Vishnu Vardhan Induri, who runs SIIMA, was the producer of the movie. Brinda Prasad, one of the brains behind the SIIMA, accepted the award on behalf of Kangana. Meanwhile, Aravind Swami won the best actor in a supporting role award (Tamil) for Thalaivii.

Original pan-Indian star

Renowned actor Kamal Haasan winning the ‘Original Pan-India Star’ award became the most thrilling moment at the award ceremony. The actor stole the show in a black-and-white jacket. KGF actor Yash and Bollywood sensation Ranveer Singh presented the award to Kamal, amid thunderous applause from one and all.

Actor most envied

Actor Allu Arjun walked away with the best actor in a leading role award (Telugu) for Pushpa. Also, his film Pushpa bagged 7 (out of 12 nominations) awards in various categories. Sharing his happiness on Instagram, Arjun posted: “soo Blessed by the people to the best actor once again. It’s so rare that getting it once itself is a dream & when it happens twice I truly feel very fortunate. Thank you for all the love. Gratitude ??”

Dazzling actress

Multi-lingual actor Pooja Hegde, dressed up in pink, stole many hearts by shaking a leg for her popular number Arabic Kuthu (from Beast) with the show compere. Thalapathy Vijay’s fans made the video viral on social media.

Hot babes at the event

Local talent Eesha Rebba and Bollywood Payal Rajput were in a neck-to-neck race at the event. Both looked hot and glam. Eesha projected her dusky looks and Payal her Bollywood glam and Star aura.

Sreemukhi hosts SIIMA

Telugu TV anchor-actor Sreemukhi got a surprise treat from Ranveer Singh. After welcoming Ranveer onto the stage, she asked him if he had something different to show than others on the stage. The actor sprung a surprise by hugging Sreemukhi and showered her with kisses on her face and fingers.

Her co-host and comedian Ali quipped: “Deepika is watching!” A visibly blushing Sreemukhi added that as a fan of Ranveer, it was the biggest moment in her life. On the work front, the anchor-cum-actor is doing a pivotal role in Chiranjeevi’s upcoming flick Bhola Sankar.
