Sathyaraj not to part of Modi biopic

A few media outlets reported three days ago that senior Tamil actor Sathyaraj will play Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a film that will go into production shortly.

The news went viral, following a post on X, by a trade analyst.

The announcement that Sathyaraj will be acting in the Narendra Modi biopic created quite a stir in the Indian entertainment industry.

However, according to a news report published on Mathrubhumi yesterday evening, Sathyaraj came forth to declare that he is a Periyarist and will not be acting in the Modi biopic.

The Baahubali actor added that he had not received such an offer.

Additionally, there are rumours that several Congressmen and BJP leaders opposed Sathyaraj essaying Narendra Modi, in the biopic.

The untitled flick, we hear, will be released in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and English.

Sathyaraj’s casting was considered a deliberate choice to ensure the film’s success and distribution in several local markets.

It’s interesting to note that Sathyaraj featured in Periyar (2009), as the late rationalist Periyar EV Ramasamy. In the film, the actor was as delightful as Periyar.

It also had a host of actors, including Jyothirmayi, Khushbu Sundar, Swarnamalya, and Vennira Aadai Nirmala.

Gnana Rajasekaran, mostly identified for directing biopics such as Bharathi (2000) and Kamaraj (2004), directed Periyar.

This isn’t the first time we witnessed film adaptations based on the life of Narendra Modi.

In 2019, Vivek Oberoi-starrer biographical drama on Modi was released.

Titled PM Narendra Modi, the movie was helmed by Omung Kumar, who made movies such as Mary Kom (2014) and Sarbjit (2016).

Boman Irani, Manoj Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, Prashant Narayanan, Zarina Wahab, and Barkha Bisht Sengupta also featured in the flick.
