The trailer of Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira was released on 18 June and has garnered significant attention on social media. The movie is a Hindi adaptation of the Tamil film, Soorarai Pottru (2020), which starred Suriya in the lead role.

Oh, and did we mention that the trailer of Sarfira includes a brief cameo appearance by Suriya? He exudes his usual style, donning a suit and sunglasses, reminiscent of his character Maara from the original film.

Suriya posted the Sarfira trailer on X mentioning that it serves as their tribute to Captain GR Gopinath, who has inspired millions of Indians.

Taking to his Instagram account, Akshay Kumar, too, shared the trailer with his fans. It opens with his character burdened by debt, expressing his primary goal to use any money he earns to repay his loans. He is also passionate about a startup concept that he believes will thrive.

The Sarfira trailer then follows Akshay as he travels to the city to present his low-cost airline idea to airline magnate Paresh Rawal, who turns down the proposal. Advised to return to his village and take up farming instead, Akshay resolves to defy financial and societal barriers to democratise air travel.

Sarfira is scheduled for release in theatres on 12 July. The film also stars Seema Biswas, and Radhika Madhan in key roles. The trailer highlights Akshay’s determination to conquer obstacles and fulfill the aspirations of ordinary people.

Director Sudha Kongara said, “With Sarfira, our goal was to create a musical masterpiece that entertains and resonates deeply with the audience. The soundtrack is eclectic and aims to connect with fans from various demographics.”

Written by Sudha and Shalini Ushadevi, with dialogues by Pooja Tolani, and a GV Prakash Kumar musical, Sarfira is produced by Aruna Bhatia (Cape of Good Films), Jyotika and Suriya (2D Entertainment) and Vikram Malhotra.

Soorarai Pottru achieved multiple accolades at the 68th National Film Awards. Suriya was awarded Best Actor for his role, while Aparna Balamurali received Best Actress. The film also earned distinctions for Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Background Score.

Directed by Sudha Kongara, Soorarai Pottru was inspired by the life of Simplify Deccan founder, Captain GR Gopinath. Due to the lockdown imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and subsequent closure of cinema halls, the film became the first major big-budget project to bypass a theatrical release and premiered on Amazon Prime Video.
