Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has been confirmed to play the antagonist in Dhanush-Sekhar Kammula’s forthcoming film. He is reportedly being paid ₹10 crore for the role, said a source.

During the release of Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi’s Love Story, Sekhar announced that his next with Dhanush is a political thriller with a pan-Indian storyline.

With Dutt on board, the project got a pan-Indian reach. After KGF 2, Dutt has been flooded with offers from South India.

In 2022, Dhanush delivered a huge hit with Thiruchitrambalam, while his Nane Varuven vied with Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan-1 and collected ₹25 crore.

Dhanush is now busy with Captain Miller directed by Arun. It is a pan-Indian movie where Kannada superstar Shivraj Kumar is doing a pivotal role.

Rajini’s Baba running houseful in Chennai

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s fans braved heavy rains and thronged Chennai theatres screening Baba from 4 am on Friday, 9 December.

The 2002 supernatural action movie, starring Rajinikanth and Manisha Koirala, was re-released in all major theatres across Tamil Nadu. Most cinema halls were running houseful.

In comparison, theatres screening Vadivelu’s comeback film Naai Sekar Returns wore a deserted look and many halls cancelled shows due to a lack of patronage. The reviews, too, were not encouraging.

The premiere of Baba saw the presence of Rajinikanth’s family along with director Suresh Krissna and producer Kalaipuli S Thanu.

After the screening, Latha Rajinikanth told the media that the film was an emotional moment for fans and all those who loved the superstar. Fans took to Twitter to post photos and videos of crowds at theatres where Baba is being screened.

Even as Rajini’s fan clubs are keeping the tempo going for Baba, Jiiva’s Varalaru Mukkiyam also found no takers.
