Samantha mentioned that she shared excellent onscreen chemistry with Varun Dhawan in Citadel: Honey Bunny and that performing action sequences with him felt like filming a romantic song.

“It felt like a partnership, where the action sequences felt almost like a dance. It was so in sync that it resembled shooting a romantic song. Raj and DK, known for their love of long takes, don’t say ‘cut’ often, which contributed to this seamless experience,” she added.

Samantha also expressed that she never imagined herself doing action roles. “Being at this event feels like a victory for me because, at the last moment, I wasn’t sure I could do it or be part of Citadel. I’m extremely grateful to Raj, DK, Sita, and Amazon for their support. I just had to prepare physically, and I’m incredibly proud of how it has turned out.”

At the Citadel: Honey Bunny teaser launch, Varun Dhawan said, “This is just a preview. Everything will be a surprise, from the background score to the action. The series features a unique 12-13 minute one-take action sequence that sets it apart. I’m excited for its release.”

Citadel: Honey Bunny is a thrilling mix of gritty, fast-paced action and compelling drama with outstanding performances. We are excited to present Varun as an edgy action hero and Samantha, who has elevated her action skills. We are also thrilled to reunite with the powerhouse Kay Kay Menon and are fortunate to have an incredible cast,” stated Raj & DK.

In an interview, Samantha shared that she underwent intense stunts for the series. “I’m covered in bruises from Citadel. My makeup artist has given up trying to hide them, especially during shoots for Kushi (2023),” she said.

The actor finds this phase fulfilling and appreciates moving beyond cliched heroine roles. “It’s wonderful to be accepted by audiences and have directors create such roles for me. This is a significant departure from the roles I used to be offered,” Samantha was quoted, as saying.

“We are excited to announce the premiere date for the highly anticipated Citadel: Honey Bunny. This Indian series within the Citadel universe combines the charm of the 90s with an engaging narrative and captivating performances by Samantha as Honey, Varun as Bunny, and the entire ensemble cast,” said Nikhil Madhok, Head of Originals, Prime Video India.

Developed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Citadel debuted with the American version starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden in 2023.

The spy franchise also includes an Italian version, Citadel: Diana, which will be released in 2024. Production for the second season of Citadel will begin this year under Joe Russo’s direction.
