Samantha replaces Nayanthara in Gautham Menon's Malayalam directorial debut

Samantha, who was last seen in the Vijay Deverakonda-starrer Kushi (2023), is rumoured to be making her Malayalam debut soon.

Speculation suggests she will star opposite Mammootty in a film produced under his banner—Mammootty Kampany, with Gautham Vasudev Menon reportedly set to direct.

However, an official confirmation is awaited.

Previously, reports indicated that Mammootty and Nayanthara would reunite on the big screen after they collaborated in the Malayalam film Puthiya Niyamam (2016). It now appears that Samantha has been finalised to be cast opposite Mammootty.

Interestingly, Gautham Menon earlier directed Samantha in Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012). This film was simultaneously shot in Telugu as Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu, with Nani replacing Jiiva.

While Gautham Menon acted in Malayalam films, this project (featuring Mammootty) would mark his directorial debut in Mollywood.

On the acting front, Gautham Menon plays an important role in Mammootty in Bazooka (2024), which will be released this year. The Malayalam film is directed and written by Deeno Dennis.

In an interview, Gautham Menon mentioned that he would like to work with both Mammootty and Fahadh Faasil, in addition to wanting to direct a Malayalam film.

Meanwhile, Mammootty was last seen in Turbo (2024), directed by Vysakh.

Turbo has garnered significant attention and revenue internationally, amassing a substantial worldwide collection of ₹70 crore, with overseas earnings contributing ₹31 crore to the total.

Additionally, there are rumours that she will star in Allu Arjun’s upcoming film directed by Atlee.

Samantha also ventured into production with her project Maa Inti Bangaram under her banner Tralala Moving Pictures.

She is one of the few female actors in South India who receives a rousing welcome whenever she appears on the big screen.

After finishing the shooting for Citadel, she announced a break from work to focus on her health.

In 2022, ahead of the release of her film Yashoda, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with myositis, an autoimmune condition.
