A day after Hombale Films stood on its decision not to screen Prabhas-starrer Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire in PVR-Inox and Miraj theatres as part of the protest, PVR INOX Ltd Co-Chief Executive Officer Kamal Gianchandani reacted to the issue on X (Twitter).

He also refuted the allegations that PVR resorted to unfair showcasing practices by colluding with the makers of Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki, which was released in cinema halls on Thursday, 21 December.

In his tweet, Kamal Gianchandani said producer-related issues were usually kept to themselves.

“We have come across some absurd internet posts regarding unfair showcasing practices at PVRINOX. No one has greater respect and appreciation for all the Producers releasing their films in our theatres than all of us at PVRINOX. Commercial disagreements are par for the course with big films releasing on the same date. Not the first time. Won’t be the last time. Everything will fall in place soon. Please put these ridiculous theories to bed (sic),” his tweet read.

On Wednesday, 20 December, the makers of Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire decided not to screen their venture in PVR, INOX, and Miraj Cinemas in South India. This comes after the multiplexes’ alleged unfair distribution of screens in North India.

Salaar and Dunki — the highly-anticipated cinematic clash of 2023 — have attracted attention as much as a cricket World Cup.

The movies upped the excitement among fans with each passing day.

Amidst the peak excitement, the decision of Salaar makers baffled not only the industry people but also the fans nationwide.

Also expressing his views on the development, Amit Sharma, Miraj Group CEO, said exhibitors should have the freedom to decide the number of shows. He said exhibitors are in the best position to understand the audience’s preferences and allocate films accordingly based on their knowledge of viewer choices.
