RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu’ scripts history by winning Golden Globe Award for Original Song

Composer MM Keeravani along with team RRR flew down to Los Angeles to attend the award ceremony. However, the film missed out on the Best Non-English language film.

After winning accolades across the globe for its making and presentation, director SS Rajamouli’s RRR, starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, and Alia Bhat in lead roles, scripted history by winning its first Golden Globe Award in the Original Song category for the “Naatu Naatu” song.

While it was a joyous moment for the Telugu film industry, the team of RRR flew down to Los Angeles, USA to attend the award ceremony. It was a big celebration for the team with Original Song winning the award.

However, there was a slight disappointment after the movie missed out on the award for Best Non-English Language Film category, which was won by Argentina,1985 from Argentina.

Soon, wishes and appreciation started pouring in on social media with the who-is-who in the film industry taking to their micro-blogging site to express their take on RRR.

Megastar Chiranjeevi wrote on Twitter: “What a phenomenal, historic achievement! Golden Globes Best Original Song – Motion Picture Award to MM Keeravaani garu!! Take a Bow! Heartiest Congratulations Team RRRMovie & SS Rajamouli. India is proud of you.”

He showed his excitement by mentioning the “Naatu Naatu” song with two dancer emojis.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took to Twitter saying, “The Telugu flag is flying high! On behalf of all of Andhra Pradesh, I congratulate MMKeeravaani, SS Rajamouli, Jr NTR, Ram Charan, and the entire team of RRR. We are incredibly proud of you!”

The elated Jr NTR shared his joy by stating that he danced to many songs throughout his career but “Naatu Naatu” shall forever stay close to his heart.

Composed by MM Keeravani, the “Naatu Naatu” song is penned by Kala Bhairavi and Rahul Sipligunj.

Indian films on global stage

The 80th Golden Globe will be cherished for a long time especially by the South Indian film industry for this historic moment.

It was the Hindi movie Do Ankhen Barah Haath which was first nominated for a Golden Globe in the year 1957. This was followed by Apur Sansar in 1961, Salaam Bombay in 1989, and Monsoon Wedding in 2002.

In terms of success for Indian films at the Golden Globe, Gandhi made it big at the 1983 edition by winning five awards. It went on to bag eight Oscars including Best Film at the BAFTA.

Thereafter, it was the turn of composer-singer AR Rahman for Slumdog Millionaire.  Now, all eyes are on RRR for its nomination at the Oscars.
