Logic and realism take a backseat in the latter half of director Domin DSilva's film. However, it has its moments.

Director Domin DSilva’s Regina is a woman-centric revenge thriller that is full of twists, some of which would manage to impress you.

As the title suggests, the story revolves around Regina (Sunaina), a single woman to whom life has been particularly unfair.

At the moment, Regina is on a mission. She is looking to track down three masked men who, during a bank robbery, are believed to have killed her husband Joe (Ananth Nag).

Initially, she places her faith in the legal system and makes regular visits to the local police station in the hope that they will investigate the matter thoroughly and apprehend the culprits.

However, when she realises that the cops are not serious about the bank robbery case and that bigger forces are at play, she decides to track the robbers herself.

Regina takes help from her dad’s friends and decides to bring the matter to closure.

She comes up with a master plan and kidnaps the family of one of the assailants who was involved in the robbery. What happens next is what the film is all about.

Partly impressive

Regina gets off to a shaky start. Be it the fable of a lion being narrated to us or the scene where Regina breaks down at the police station, everything seems out of place and exaggerated. Therefore, you don’t find yourself emotionally invested in the film.

Also, there is an extended sequence of Regina seducing Julie (Rithu Mantra), the wife of one of the assailants involved in the attack. This brings down the intensity factor. But then, once you realise what Regina’s true motives are, the story begins to pick up pace.

There are some sharp twists in the plot that make you cheer, not just for Regina but also for its director.

However, in the second half, logic and realism take a backseat and quite a bit of the good work done earlier gets undone.

Dheena stands tall

Sunaina, who is known to be an exceptionally talented actress, comes up with a performance that is part impressive and part disappointing in this film.

The sequences in which she makes the driver agree to her plans are just awesome, but she isn’t at her convincing best in the initial few scenes of the film.

One actor who stands tall because of his performance in this film is Dheena. He delivers a towering performance in the limited time that he comes on screen. So impressive is his performance in the film that you almost wish his character had more screen space.

Vivek Prasanna, who has been seen in almost all films in recent times, plays his part with confidence in this one, too. He hasn’t got much to do in this film but he does what he has to do flawlessly.

Verdict

Nevertheless, Regina works as an entertainer. It might not entertain you from start to finish, but it certainly has its moments.
