Telugu actor Rana Daggubati apologised to Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor after his comments at a recent event went viral.
During the promotions of Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming film King of Kotha in Hyderabad recently, Rana spoke about how a “big Hindi cinema heroine” wasted Dulquer’s time on the sets of a Bollywood film by speaking to her partner in the UK.
This incident apparently happened during the shooting of The Zoya Factor (2019) where Dulquer Salmaan acted alongside Sonam Kapoor.
Rana Daggubati put himself in an awkward position after his comments went viral.
Sonam Kapoor’s fans lost no time in speculating that the pan-Indian actor was talking about their favourite actress, the film he was referring to was The Zoya Factor, and Sonam’s husband Anand Ahuja is based in London.
After this, Rana issued a clarification on X (formerly Twitter).
I am genuinely troubled by the negativity that has been aimed at Sonam due to my comments, that are totally untrue and were meant entirely in a light-hearted manner. As friends, we often exchange playful banter, and I deeply regret that my words have been misinterpreted.

He wrote: “I am genuinely troubled by the negativity that has been aimed at Sonam due to my comments, which are totally untrue and were meant entirely in a light-hearted manner. As friends, we often exchange playful banter, and I deeply regret that my words have been misinterpreted.”
“I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt apologies to Sonam and Dulquer, both of whom I hold in great esteem. I hope this clarification puts an end to any speculation and misunderstanding. Thank you for your understanding,” he added.
Rana Daggubati and Nani attended the promotional event of King of Kotha in Hyderabad on 11-12 August.
During the event, Rana recalled: “Dulquer was my junior at acting school. We became friends there. Dulquer is a very polite person. He’s doing a Hindi movie and the producers are my friends. The shooting happened near my house. I went there to meet Dulquer.”

Further recollecting the incident, the actor said, “Dulquer was standing in the corner with the spot boy and a big Hindi heroine, who was doing that movie, was speaking about shopping in London with her husband. Her lack of focus affected the shots’ quality, frustrating those on set.”
Rana further added, “Despite the disruptions, Dulquer remained patient and understanding, defusing tension and maintaining a harmonious environment.”
After his comments went viral, Sonam Kapoor responded to Rana. In her Instagram story, she quoted former First Lady of the United States Eleanor Roosevelt.
Sonam’s cryptic post read: “Small minds discuss people; average minds discuss events, great minds discuss ideas. Just a little something I’d like some people to know… especially when discussing things about people that are made up.”
