Has Puri Jagannadh, Vijay Deverakonda’s Jana Gana Mana been shelved?

Director Puri Jagannadh and actor Vijay Deverakonda are learnt to have shelved their upcoming film Jana Gana Mana. And rumour mills are agog that one of the producers has backed out of the project, in view of the disastrous performance put up at the box office by their latest release Liger.

During the promotions of Liger, the two had announced that they are teaming up again for Jana Gana Mana.

In fact, Puri and Deverakonda had also announced that they were expecting a gross collection of over ₹200 crore with Liger. Made with a budget of around ₹100 crore, the film reportedly collected a gross of ₹66.89 crore worldwide until now, as per IndiaTV News. As a result, distributors and exhibitors who suffered heavy losses have started demanding compensation from the makers.

Following this, Puri Jagannadh — who also produced Liger — decided to compensate for the losses, said an exclusive report by ETimes. He is likely to meet the south distributors and exhibitors this week and execute the same. However, the filmmaker is yet to make an official announcement in this regard.

Similarly, Vijay Deverakonda is likely to compensate the makers by returning his remuneration. As per the report in ETimes, he will pay ₹6 crore to the producers. The Liger star is yet to make an official statement about this.

The makers had spent a huge amount on Liger’s nationwide promotions over as many as 40 days. The production house is yet to clear the bills of the public relations agencies in various states, a source told South First.

In a similar incident, when Chiranjeevi’s Acharya flopped, its director Koratala Siva had compensated the distributors and exhibitors.

He had returned the amount in July and even cleared the debts. It was also reported that Chiranjeevi did not charge a single penny towards remuneration because he was one of the producers.
