Pressure mounts on Samantha Prabhu for appearance on Instagram

Despite posting in rapid succession about the announcements of her under-production movies and wishing her co-stars on their birthdays, Samantha Ruth Prabhu is under pressure to make an appearance on Instagram.

Producers of Pushpa 2 have confirmed that Samantha has declined to act in their film. The producer of Kushi, who announced the release date, is doubtful about completing the movie if she does not turn up for shoots.

Apart from the Twitter posts and a manager who has only to inform that his boss is not in the USA, Tollywood is not sure whether to believe the rumours.

On the business front, the brands that have Samantha Prabhu as their brand ambassador are too in a tizzy. In the meanwhile, to deflect the real issue, stories of Gurudev Jaggi taking the initiative to get Samantha married a second time have surfaced.

Amid all this, social media is agog with rumours that the actor is suffering from skin rashes and hence is not willing to face the cameras. Her company announced having appointed an agency to look after the PR.

Meanwhile, her Twitter post today, 23 September, on Shaakuntalam’s release date (on 4 November) with an added line of asking her fans to stay with her has not done any good.

November is considered not so good a month for releases. As Shaakuntalam is a heroine-centric film, promotions are important. For a person whose market price is reportedly ₹20 lakh for a promotional post on Instagram, Samantha posted only two photos of her in the upcoming flick Yashoda in August-September and a MyFitness ad pic.

Samantha’s forthcoming films

Almost 41 days after her absence from social media, she made a reappearance on Instagram. She posted the poster of Yashoda in which she looks angry and dishevelled. The film is a sci-fi thriller directed by Hari-Harish. The film has Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan and Tamil actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in crucial roles. This is Samantha’s major solo on-screen presence post her divorce and has her fans eagerly waiting for the release.

On the anvil is Shaakuntalam directed by Gunasekar, a mythological drama. Samantha Prabhu also signed an English film, Arrangements of Love directed by Phillip John of Downtown Abbey fame. In it, she plays a bisexual who runs a detective agency.

This apart, she signed a web series opposite Varun Dhawan and is said to be the Indian version of Citadel. Her last release in Tamil was Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal with Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. It was a major hit.

On the business front, Samantha disclosed that she has invested in the e-commerce site Sustain Kart which deals with green products as an aggregator. It will start 35 new offline stores soon.

After The Family Man 2 and her item song in Pushpa: The Rise, the actor caught the eye of the advertising agencies that handle national brands. Myntra and Mamaearth are two brands that she endorses. Others in the pipeline are Dabur Vatika hair oil, Lux, PhonePe and MyFitness.

Her pan-India presence and her independent bold image post-divorce are the reasons why agencies prefer Samantha over other Bollywood actors.
