The Kannada comedy drama Powder, helmed by director Janardhan Chikkanna, has announced its release date. Originally slated for release on 12 July, the film will be hitting the screens on 15 August, as announced by the makers.
Janardhan gained acclaim for his cybercrime thriller Gultoo (2018), which introduced Naveen Shankar as a prominent lead in Kannada cinema.
TVF, known for its expertise in web series, is making its debut in cinema with Powder.
“The decision to postpone the release date came after extensive discussions with the post-production team. The film’s CGI, particularly crucial in the last twenty minutes, requires additional time,” stated KRG Studios.
According to an official statement from the makers, Powder revolves around a group of ambitious youngsters from a small town who are down on their luck. Their quest for quick wealth is filled with numerous challenges as they encounter enemies and frenemies.
Despite incorporating thriller elements, the film seems to maintain a light-hearted tone.
Deriving inspiration from popular youth-oriented comedies such as Delhi Belly (2011), Fukrey (2013), and Madgaon Express (2024), KRG Studios, and TVF aimed to create a hilarious and entertaining film for Kannada audiences and young adults worldwide.
Starring Diganth Manchale, Sharmiela Mandre, and Dhanya Ramkumar in lead roles, Powder also features Anirudh Acharya, Rangayana Raghu, Nagabhushana, Ravishankar Gowda, and Gopalkrishna Deshpande in significant roles.
Written by Deepak Venkateshan, the film’s cinematography is handled by Advaitha Gurumurthy and Shanthi Sagar HG. Vasuki Vaibhav is the music director, while Trilok Trivikram has penned the dialogues for the film.
Interestingly, Shivarajkumar’s Bhairathi Ranagal isn’t the sole film shifting from the Independence Day release slot.
Written and directed by Narthan and produced by Geetha Shivarajkumar under Geetha Pictures, the film features Rahul Bose, Rukmini Vasanth, Chaya Singh, Shabeer Kallarakkal, and Babu Hirannaiah in supporting roles. Serving as both a sequel and a prequel to the 2017 film Mufti, it continues the narrative from its predecessor.
Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rule has been postponed, too.
