All We Imagine As Light filmmaker Payal Kapadia

Director Payal Kapadia, after having a successful run all over the world with the Grand Prix winner All We Imagine As Light, spoke about her next two projects.

While the director had previously hinted that her next movies also might be along the lines of All We Imagine As Light, she has now confirmed that though they will revolve around Mumbai, they won’t be connected.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in Hong Kong, Payal Kapadia said, “I have two new films in mind; together with All We Imagine as Light, they will form like a triptych. Not a trilogy, because that would imply that they are a connected story. They will be different pieces, all set in Mumbai.”

Kapadia was in Hong Kong for the Asian Film Awards, where her film won the Best Film Award.

Other awards and nominations

The film, though nominated in various categories at the Oscars and Golden Globes, couldn’t bag an award.

However, All We Imagine As Light had won many other accolades. Sight and Sound magazine has named it the best film of 2024. The film was also named the Best International Film at the New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC).

Apart from this,  All We Imagine As Light also won the Best International Feature trophy at the reputed Gotham Awards 2024.

On 20 December, Payal Kapadia received the Spirit of Cinema Award from the Kerala government at the 29th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).

Instituted at the 26th IFFK, the Spirit of Cinema Award celebrates filmmakers who use cinema to challenge oppression.

All We Imagine As Light is a daring and sincere movie from Payal Kapadia that speaks about the lives of three working-class women in Mumbai. The movie is realistic to its core and is definitely a masterpiece,” our review read.
