A directorial venture of Trivikram Srinivas, Jalsa was produced by Allu Aravind under the banner of Geetha Arts. It featured Ileana D’Cruz as the lead lady, and Parvati Melton, Kamalinee Mukherjee, Mukesh Rishi and Prakash Raj in key roles.

Devi Sri Prasad composed the music for the film and the album topped the charts for several months when it was released. In fact, the audio rights were sold to Aditya Music for a whopping ₹90 lakh, the highest for a Telugu film at that time.

Devi Sri received the Santosham Best Music Director Award for Jalsa. The film also won the Santosham awards in the Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress categories.

Jalsa started the trend of releasing the first-look poster. Also, popular actor Mahesh Babu did the voice-over for the movie for the first time ever.

Gave a boost to Pawan’s career

In Jalsa, Pawan Kalyan played the role of Sanjay Sahu — a rehabilitated Naxalite. The film gave him a much-needed break after several flops.

Indeed, the actor didn’t register a hit after Kushi (2001), which placed him in the league of superstars in the Telugu film industry.

Pawan Kalyan debuted as a director in 2003 with Johnny, which received critical applause for technical aspects and his direction, but proved to be a disaster at the box office. This was followed by Gudumba Shankar, Balu, Bangaram and Annavaram — all box office duds.

Meanwhile, the actor is currently busy shooting for his upcoming project Hari Hara Veera Mallu. this period action-adventure film is being directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and produced by A Dayakar Rao.

The movie is about the life of legendary outlaw Veera Mallu, who was set with the task of stealing the Kohinoor diamond from the Mughals.

It features Niddhi Agerwal, Arjun Rampal and Nargis Fakhri in key roles. It is tentatively planned for release in all south Indian languages and Hindi on 30 March 2023. The makers launched the teaser (Power Glance) at 10.15 am on 2 September and it is trending with over 27 lakh views and 300-plus likes on YouTube.
