Poet-writer-actor-director Leena Manimekalai and actress Parvathy Thiruvothu are coming together for a cybercrime thriller titled, Dhanya.

Grammy Award winner Apoorva Bakshi of Awedacious Originals is producing the flick. She is the producer of the popular web series, Delhi Crime, now streaming on Netflix.

In an interview with Variety, Leena spoke about how impressed she was with the web series. She also expressed happiness over collaborating with producer Apoorva and Monisha Thyagarajan, the Creative Director of Blue Magic Films Pvt Ltd.

In her social media accounts, Leena posted that Parvathy would play a pivotal role, and termed the upcoming crime thriller “a magic potion brewed by the power of sisterhood.”

Leena made news in July 2022 after the poster of her film, Kaali, depicted the goddess as smoking a cigarette and holding the LBGTQIA+. The poster drew criticism from Hindutva groups.

Parvathy’s next is Dootha in Telugu

Parvathy Thiruvothu released the controversial poster of Leena’s film, Maadathy: An Unfairy Tale, in 2019. The movie portrayed the experiences of an adolescent girl from Tamil Nadu’s Puthirai Vannar community and the discrimination meted out against her community — to an extent that they were termed unworthy to even be seen.

Meanwhile, the actor recently signed Pa Ranjith’s film. This is the first time that she is pairing up with Vikram. Rashmika Mandanna and Malavika Mohanan backed out of the project due to date issues following which the makers approached Parvathy.

Pasupathi is doing a significant role in it. The film will be shot extensively in Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh and Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.

A National Award recipient, Parvathy was last seen in Mammootty’s Malayalam film Puzhu, directed by Ratheena. She is now busy with Amazon Prime’s forthcoming Telugu web series Dootha.

The actor is known for her candid statements and outspoken nature. She raised eyebrows by speaking against Mammootty and Vijay Devarakonda for acting in films that glorified misogyny.

Parvathy slammed the Kerala government for not making public Justice Hema Commission report that looked into the problems faced by women in Mollywood.
