Padma Vibhushan for Chiranjeevi: Was the Megastar denied his due by MAA?

Except for a few, the majority of celebrities from other film industries remained silent when the Central government announced the Padma Vibhushan for Megastar Chiranjeevi. Expressing their dissatisfaction on social media, netizens wondered why Chiranjeevi being conferred with Padma Vibhushan did not please them.

Even the local welfare body of Tollywood, the Movie Artistes Association (MAA), did not officially celebrate the Megastar’s achievement.

Mega fans and film lovers on social media expressed their disappointment saying, “Why did Tollywood not honour Chiranjeevi?” “Why no programmes have been organised for the feat that he has achieved?”

However, in the wake of MAA president Manchu Vishnu’s recent announcement to celebrate 90 years of Telugu cinema through “Navathi Utsavam” at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, questions are being raised over the attitude of MAA.

The question arose whether MAA missed the chance to honour the Megastar.

The film industry and people anticipated a ceremony from Tollywood after Chiranjeevi received the Padma Vibhushan, but only the Telangana government acknowledged it. But there was a silence from MAA.

Padma Vibhushan is a significant achievement. After legendary actor late Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Chiranjeevi received the honour in Telugu cinema.

The question arises as to why the Telugu film industry, which celebrated Chiranjeevi’s achievement when he received the Padma Bhushan in 2006, ignored him this time. If it is not from MAA, why Chiranjeevi did not get his due from the other 24 crafts of Telugu cinema?

Even Film Chamber President Dil Raju promised a grand reception for Megastar but to no avail.
