A typical teenage college story from the 90s that includes a little bit of everything – drama, fun, romance, and tragedy.

Rightly termed the “golden days”, the experience of the first few years in college is a special one for any teenage student. This is exactly what Hariprasad Jayanna showcases in Padavi Poorva, meaning Pre-University, with a little bit of every emotion required to make it memorable in the end.
Like most teenage stories with college as the epicentre, this one too has a gang of friends, cute love stories, the last bench saga, petty fights, and a tragedy to wrap things up.
Here, Naveen and his childhood friends, who grew up studying together since their school days, have different shades to them.
One is madly in love and another is funny while remaining with a dream of their own to follow. The odd person is the one who often creates problems for the gang of goods.
Keeping it true to the 90s, the makers did a decent job in terms of providing a realistic experience for the audience.
The first half is all about the light humour mixed with the usual teenage escapades. Soon things get complicated, taking a serious turn as the gang falls apart due to the usual misunderstanding.
The casting of teenage newcomers fits the bill and their cute yet strong performances keep it engaging for most parts.
In short, it does a neat job of taking the audience, who actually lived the 80s and 90s college (PUC) days as students, back to their college days and recollect all about their friendships and much more.
If one had ever fallen in love for the first time, then Padavi Poorva will certainly make those memories return to linger in them for some time.
However, the drawback is that it offers nothing new. It’s the same-old saga and since it’s a universal tale that every teenager connects well and helps even adults to go back to those lovely days makes this a one-time watch.
Thankfully, it’s not another tale that is purely made to send out a moral message about what to do and what not to do as a student. However, it only briefly touches upon the harsh reality of the life of a teenager.
Composer Arjun Janya has the right tunes for the right occasion with Yogaraj Bhat, who also produced this one and has the beautiful lyrics perfect for that perfect outing.
All in all, Padavi Poorva wins the heart despite being an old saga of teenagers from college days.
