Oscar wins: Indian politicians hail ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ and ‘RRR’

Congratulatory messages pour in from various political leaders, including PM Modi, after India's mesmerising performance at the 95th Academy Awards.

Moments after India’s splendid performance at the 95th Academy Awards, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to congratulate teams The Elephant Whisperers and RRR for making the country proud.

The PM congratulated the team The Elephant Whisperers for its historic victory at the 95th Academy Awards.

The Tamil documentary became the maiden Indian production to win in the Documentary Short Subject category.

Also, he described the “Naatu Naatu” song as one that will be remembered for years to come. The chartbuster from SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR became the first Indian song to win the Academy Award in the Best Original Song category.

Other politicians join in

Meanwhile, several political leaders took to their social media accounts to congratulate teams The Elephant Whisperers and RRR since today morning.

Former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu tweeted: “Congratulations to composer Keeravani garu, lyricist Chandra Bose, ace director Rajamouli garu, & the crew of #RRR movie for making history by winning the prestigious #Oscar Award for the Best Original Song for the popular number, #NaatuNaatu.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi remarked that the song “Naatu Natu” which India danced to has truly gone global along with his wishes to the RRR team.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan also took to Twitter to congratulate the RRR team. “Congratulations @RRRMovie team You made INDIAN’S& Telugu film industry Proud by #Oscar,” she said.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, through CM’s official account on Twitter, shared a series of tweets saying how it is a matter of great pride for all Telugus.

He described the RRR‘s victory as a “festival for the Telugus across the world” and promised to extend full support to the Telugu film industry.

Rao also urged the industry fraternity to make more films that reflect the life of common man and continue the success streak.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh hailed The Elephant Whisperers’ win at the Oscars.

He said maybe this will force the Modi government not to press ahead with the “widely opposed elephant-unfriendly” amendments to the Wild Life Protection Act 1972.

In 2010, the elephant had been declared a national heritage animal, the Congress general secretary noted.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday congratulated music director M M Keeravani and team for bagging an Oscar for the song “Naatu Naatu” in the Music (Original Song) category.

Written by lyricist Chandrabose and rendered by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, Reddy said the Oscar-winning song had left music lovers tapping their feet.

According to the Chief Minister, the song amplified notations in a variety of genres, including pace, effect, beat and depth, showcasing the Telugu prowess at an international scale, creating history.

Similarly, N Chandrababu Naidu, former chief minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo noted that “Naatu Naatu” has sealed its place in history by winning the award for best original song at the 95th Oscar awards.

“This is probably the finest moment for Indian cinema and Telugus achieving it is even more special,” said Naidu congratulating Rajamouli, Keeravani, Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Chandrabose, Sipligunj, Kala Bhairava and choreographer Prem Rakshit.
