Actor Harish Pengan, who was undergoing treatment at Amrita Hospital for liver disease, sadly passed away on Tuesday, 30 May. He was admitted to the hospital with minor abdominal pain. The actor was also battling pneumonia, which made the situation worse.
He was 49 years old at the time of his passing. The actor breathed his last at 3:15 pm, according to a statement from the hospital. The body of the actor will be cremated at his home in Nedumbassery on Wednesday, 31 May.
The actor was diagnosed with liver disease. His twin sister Sreeja was ready to donate her liver, but the process required a huge amount of money.
When the actor’s condition was critical, his friends and other celebrities from the Malayalam film industry sought help for the actor’s medical treatment.
However, certain comments on social media made the family deeply unhappy.
As medical help was requested, a section on social media had alleged that Harish Pengan was a drunkard, said director and long-time friend Manoj Varghese. But his liver disease wasn’t due to alcohol consumption, he clarified on Facebook.
The Association of Malayalam Movies of Artists (AMMA) was also not able to help Harish as he was not a member of the association.
Harish Pengan is popularly known for his comedic roles in several Malayalam movies. Some of his notable films include Maheshinte Prathikaram (2016), Minnal Murali (2021), Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey (2022), Jo and Jo (2022) and several others.
His roles in recent films like Pookkaalam(2023) and Vellari Pattanam (2023), were also notable. He was known for his good comedic timing in all these roles.
