Visual effects company NY VFXwaala, which did the special effects for Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan, is set to expand its operations in Hyderabad.
Founded by Bollywood star Ajay Devgn, NY VFXwaala currently has a team of 400 people. It is all set to add 250 more professionals to its headcount over the next six months to cater to the growing business.
The visual effects company caters to movies in multiple languages.
It has to its credit popular movies like Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati-starrer Bheemla Nayak, Mohan Lal’s Drishyam, Drishyam 2, Bharat Ane Nenu, Tanhaji, Sardar Udham, Runway 34 and Khuda Haafiz, to name a few.
It received critical acclaim for its work in Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus PS-1. With its presence in Hyderabad, NY VFXwaala has a sizeable filmmaker clientele from South Indian movies.

“NY VFXwaala has campuses in Mumbai and Hyderabad. While there are about 280 staff in Mumbai, we have about 120 in Hyderabad. Given the growing demand for VFX in movies, we are hiring 250 more staff in Hyderabad,” Dipali Sawant, HR Head of NY VFXwaala, told South First.
As the talent crunch in the VFX sector is worrying the film industry, the company is also roping in creative freshers who are interested in the field and training them before hiring.
After the arrival of OTTs, it became easy to overcome the linguistic barriers as movie lovers are getting access to content from not just India but across the world.

“During Covid-19, people were exposed to movies from different languages. Even filmmakers are coming up with world-class content and are using visual effects extensively in their movies. Hence, the demand for VFX professionals is rising in India,” explained Sawant.
She pointed out that movies like Baahubali, RRR, Ponniyin Selvan, and KGF became pan-Indian hits because of good content and visual effects.
