Noted Malayalam film producer PV Gangadharan passes away

Gangadharan's production company, Grihalakshmi Productions, bankrolled more than 20 memorable Malayalam films to date.

PV Gangadharan died at the age of 80

Renowned Malayalam film producer PV Gangadharan passed away at a private hospital in Kozhikode at around 6.30 am on Friday, 13 October. He was 80.

Gangadharan was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments for more than a week.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday, 14 October.

Gangadharan produced more than 20 memorable films under his production company — Grihalakshmi Productions.

Some of his films include Angadi (1980), Kattathe Kilikkoodu (1983), Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1989), Thooval Kottaram (1996), Ennu Swantham Janakikutty (1998), Achuvinte Amma (2005), Adhwaytham (1992), Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal (2000), and Notebook (2006).

After a long gap, Grihalalkshmi Productions produced Janaki Jaane in 2023, starring Navya Nair and Saiji Kurup in the lead roles.

Gangadharan’s Shantham won the Best Feature Film at the National Film Awards 2021.

Similarly, his Kaanakkinavu (2006) won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration.

As a producer, he won two National Film Awards and five Kerala State Film Awards.

Early life

Gangadharan was born in 1943 to Madhavi Sami and PV Sami, a prominent businessman and founder of the KTC Group of Companies. He was the younger brother of PV Chandran, the managing editor of Mathrubhumi.

Later, he became the whole-time director of the Mathrubhumi group.

He contested from Kozhikode North in the 2011 Assembly elections. He was a member of the All India Congress Committee. He entered politics through the Kerala Students Union (KSU) during his college days.

He is survived by his wife PV Sherien and children Shenuga Jaythilak, Shegna Vigil, and Sherga Sandeep.

His daughters started a production company named SCube Productions.
