Spadikdam was a cult movie that gained appreciation both from critics and audiences upon its release in 1995. The Mohanlal-starrer was also later remade into other Indian languages.

Director Bhadran always goes down memory lane while speaking about it during media interactions.

The film is all set to re-release on 9 February after it was remastered using the state-of-the-art 4K projection and Dolby Atmos sound.

Ahead of the re-release, Bhadran told the media today, 9 February, that Spadikam will not have a sequel. “I won’t do the second part of Spadikam because the story of Aadu Thoma’s transformation from a rogue to a well-mannered person is complete,” he clarified.

The director also recalled that producer R Mohan had once asked him to do a sequel to the film. “But I turned down the proposal saying Mohan didn’t understand the story even though he produced it.”

Most of the actors who acted in the movie passed away, including Thilakan, KPAC Lalitha, Nedumudi Venu, and Rajan P Dev.

Criticism should not taint individuals: Priyadarshan

Movie reviews on YouTube channels seem to have become a matter of concern for Malayalam filmmakers as they are affecting their ventures.

Priyadarshan’s much-hyped Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham received negative reviews after its release and he was even trolled.

Reacting to the trolls, the director asserted that criticism or reviews should not tarnish anyone. “For example, it is wrong to talk bad about Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan (Kerala) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as we should respect their post.”

He was addressing the fourth edition of the Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters in Trivandrum today, 9 February. He was replying to a young student who asked about growing incidents of social media criticism.

Priyadarshan was accompanied by director Satyan Anthikad and actor Siddique. They too concurred that the negative comments made on social media are affecting the film collections.

Dark Shades of a Secret poster out

The first look poster of Dark Shades of a Secret was launched recently. The thriller movie helmed by director Divya Mukund claims to be the first of its kind in terms of the genre by a female director.

It has a bunch of new actors and technicians, including Rajeevan Vellur, Sebin, Vishnuprasad, Vidya Mukund, and Biju Paleri.

The makers claim that the film has a unique plot. It is produced by Nila Creative Media. Mohamed A is the cinematographer.

Suriya resumes shoot of Suriya 42

Actor Suriya resumed the shoot of his upcoming film with director Siva, Suriya 42 (tentative title).

Suriya is set to play five different characters in the film, making it one of his most expensive projects.

The team will shoot a major action scene inside a flight set beside a song. The crew recently finished filming a massive fight scene in a gym.

They plan to shoot the period portions by March-end and complete the entire shoot by April 2023.

Bollywood actor Disha Patani is debuting as a female lead in Kollywood with this 3D period drama. Devi Sri Prasad is the music director.

Disha Patani recently shared a video on social media showcasing her impressive stunt performance. She seems to be preparing for her role in Suriya 42 by honing her martial arts skills before filming the historical portions.

This promises to be a strong role for the actress and fans anticipate her playing a dual role. The high-budget film will be released in 10 languages and in two parts.

‘Trisha didn’t quit Leo

Trisha’s mother Uma Krishnan has clarified that the actor didn’t quit Vijay’s forthcoming flick Leo and that she will continue filming in Kashmir.

Trisha recently came to Delhi from Kashmir after which it was rumoured that she quit the movie owing to creative differences with director Lokesh Kanagaraj.

However, Uma said that the actress temporarily left Kashmir as the harsh weather (temperatures dropped to -1 to -3°C) was affecting her health.

Trisha visited Kashmir today, 9 February, to resume the shooting for Leo. She is staying at the Heritage Luxury Resort in Srinagar.

As Trisha and Vijay are teaming up after 14 years, their fans are equally excited about their onscreen chemistry in Leo.

The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Priya Anand, Sandy, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mansoor Ali Khan, Mysskin, Mathew Thomas, and Arjun Sarja in key roles. Anirudh Ravichander is the music director.

It is set for release on 30 October in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada languages.
