Tamil Nadu exhibitors are concerned over canteens sales as Nayanthara's 'Connect' has no intermission. (Rowdy_Pictures/Twitter)
Nayanthara’s upcoming film Connect seems to have run into some trouble in Tamil Nadu because of something it will not have.
Director Ashwin Saravanan recently announced that the horror thriller will have no interval break as it is of 99-minute duration. This became a cause for concern for the theatre owners in the state.
The members of the Tamil Nadu Exhibitors’ Association averred that running a film without an intermission would affect their canteen sales. Hence, they demanded an interval break.
Besides canteen sales, the exhibitors also expressed serious concern over the movie’s timings which, they said, would not be in sync with those of the other films being screened in the same complex, and hence would become an issue for them. The makers are yet to give a reply on these issues.
Connect was initially planned to have an OTT release. However, the makers decided to release it in theatres on 22 December. Disney+ Hotstar has its digital rights.
The flick stars Sathyaraj, Anupam Kher, and Vinay Rai in key roles. It is produced by Vignesh Shivan under the banner of Rowdy Pictures. Prithvi Chandrasekhar composed the music.
Connect is also being released in Telugu and Hindi. Nayanthara and Saravanan are coming together in this film after the superhit horror-thriller Maya (2015).

Director Shankar is all set to revive his distribution company S Pictures, after eight long years, through Vasanthabalan’s film Aneethi. The last film he distributed was Vaibhav’s Kappal.
He announced this in a tweet where he disclosed that he found Aneethi worth taking to the public under his home banner.
Vasanthabalan delivered many films that won critical acclaim and also registered office success.
Veyil (2006), produced by Shankar, and Angadi Theru (2010) were major hits. However, his recent film Jail (2021) did not do well at the box office.
For his forthcoming movie Aneethi, he decided to turn producer and got Shankar’s support, too.
Aneethi has Arjun Das and Dushara Vijayan in the lead. Vanitha Vijaykumar, Bharani, Suresh Chakravarthi, Aranthangi Nisha, Pugazh, Kaali Venkat, Sarah, Arjun Chidambaram, Subramaniam Siva, J Sathish Kumar, and T Siva appear in key roles.
Vasanthabalan, Chimbudevan, and Arivazhagan are working as the second unit of Indian 2, to help their guru Shankar finish the project on time and simultaneously concentrate on Ram Charan’s Telugu flick RC15.
