Pittampally Sudarshan, popularly known as Daasi Sudarshan, passed away in Telangana’s Miryalaguda on Monday, 1 April. He was 72.
Sudarshan won the National award for best costume design in the 1988 film Daasi.
The artist was undergoing treatment at a private hospital after suffering from a heart attack.
Sudarshan started his career as a drawing teacher in a government junior college in Nagarjuna Sagar.
He worked as a costume designer for the movie Daasi, written and directed by B Narsing Rao in 1988. The film portrayed the life of a woman, who worked as a bonded labour in the erstwhile Hyderabad state.
Daasi won five honours, including the Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 36th National Film Awards for “portraying the grim reality of a feudal milieu through original and rare use of film language”, as cited by the jury.

The final rites are expected to be held on Tuesday, 2 March at his residence in Miryalaguda.
