Actor Vashishta makes to debut in Tamil with Wolf that marks dancing sensation Prabhudheva's 60th film in his career.

Though he started his career as a software engineer, he soon quit it to realise his dream of becoming an actor.

Gifted with a bass-baritone voice with singing ability, Vashishta N Simha worked hard to climb the ladder of success.

Now, many — especially his fans — recognise him from the film KGF, where he played the role of a gangster.

He is currently busy preparing for his wedding celebrations with actress Harirprriya, which is scheduled on 26 January.

Despite that, actor and singer Vashishta took some time out of his schedule to speak exclusively to South First on his Tamil debut venture, the impending nuptials, and his upcoming projects.

His Kannada connection, and Wolf

“Honestly, I have not come across such a screenplay, and I am not exaggerating about it. Wolf is a one-of-its-kind project that will hit the theatres in three parts (trilogy),” said Vashishta.

“While the opportunity to work with the sensational Prabhu Deva is the main source of excitement, the writing of the film is what pushed me to finally make my debut in Tamil,” Vashishta shared.

Though primarily made in Tamil, Wolf has a special connection with Karnataka.

Produced by Sandesh Nagaraj, a noted filmmaker and politician, Wolf has Prabhu Deva who hails from the Mugur village near Mysuru, and Raai Lakshmi, who also hails from Karnataka.

“I later got to know that the director of the film, Vinoo Venketesh, is my junior from National College. It was Sandesh Nagaraj sir who was very keen on casting me in the film. Moreover, it marks the 60th film for the dancing sensation Prabhudheva sir. All of it makes it a very special and memorable one for me,” said Vashisht.

A multi-layered film

Explaining that the film cannot be restricted to a particular genre, Vashishta feels that it is sci-fi fiction that has bits of action, thriller, and a good amount of romance.

“I have been getting offers from the Tamil film industry for quite some time. However, either the issues with my dates or the roles I was being offered had limited presence which kept me waiting till I found a meaty opportunity that could make an impact on the audience,” he revealed.

“Unlike a few experiences, where my character would be entirely lost in the second half, I was keen on something which remained in the minds of the audience like in the Kannada film Head Bush. In Wolf, I will return in the second part too.”

Hitting the screens in summer

Apart from Prabhu Deva, Raai Lakshmi, and Vashishta Simha, Wolf also features Anju Kurian, Anasuya Bharadwaj, and Sri Gopika.

Currently in its post-production stage, Wolf is scheduled for release this summer in March.

Vashishta Simha who is dubbing for the Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada versions as well, said that a recent phenomenon in the Kannada film industry has changed the entire graph.

“I believe that it’s like a cycle of faith that our industry is back again on top. We have been making good movies but back-to-back successes have made everyone turn towards us regularly,” he said, adding: “Whenever I am working in other industries, people regularly come to me to praise the kind of work that is being done in Sandalwood.”

He also said: “As long as the content is king, the phenomenon will just keep continuing. We used to do good films but with a limited reach but now we are showcasing talents from Kannada on a much bigger scale.”

Other projects

In Telugu, Vashishta Simha — who made his debut in Narappa alongside Venkatesh, where he played the role of Seena — will return for his fifth project: Devil. He is also part of a yet-to-be-titled project in Telugu.

In Kannada, he has Love Li, Talavarapete in the pipeline, along with Yada Yadahi, where he will be seen alongside Diganth, and his would-be wife Hariprriya.

Vashishta signed off sharing that a few songs sung by him are pending release, including the one he and his would-be lady have performed for the film Yada Yadahi.

Here’s wishing the couple who are getting hitched soon a very happy married life.
