Mari Selvaraj-Dhruv Vikram's next is Bison Kaalamaadan

Mari Selvaraj, whose latest outing was Maamannan (2023), has teamed up with Dhruv Vikram for a sports drama titled Bison Kaalamaadan.

Bankrolled by Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Studios and Applause Entertainment, the announcement title and poster were revealed on X on Monday, 6 May.

An intense Dhruv is featured on the dark colour-themed poster with a massive bison sculpture behind him.

According to sources, Dhruv lived in a village in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi for over six to seven months to learn kabaddi.

Bison Kaalamaadan, which is based on the real-life story of Arjuna Awardee Kabaddi player Manathi P Ganesan, also features Anupama Parameswaran in a pivotal role.

In addition, the sports drama features an intriguing ensemble of actors in supporting roles, including Pasupathy, Rajisha Vijayan, Hari Krishnan, Azhagam Perumal, Kalaiyarasan, and Malayalam actor Lal.

The official summary describes Bison Kaalamaadan as a story of courage, tenacity, and grandeur in the life of a young man who saw the entire world as a Goliath to his David.

“A story of a man who defied the lines on his hand to achieve what no one thought possible, to choose sport over a gun, peace over violence, and life over death,” as per the official plotline.

The technical crew of Bison Kaalamaadan consists of cinematographer Ezhil Arasu, editor Sakthi Thiru, and music composer Nivas K Prasanna of Thegidi (2014)-fame.

Filmmaker Mari Selvaraj and Pa Ranjith reunite with Bison Kaalamaadan, following their critically acclaimed project Pariyerum Perumal (2018).

Mari Selvaraj previously stated that as caste inequality was an unavoidable aspect of Indian society, all his films would deal with the same.

Bison Kaalamaadan will be an important milestone film in my career,” Mari Selvaraj said in a statement, adding, “A talented youngster like Dhruv will add different dimensions to our premise.”

Dhruv Vikram made a splashing debut as a lead with Adithya Varma (2019)—the Tamil remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy (2017).

He was seen in Karthik Subbaraj’s Mahaan (2022), a direct OTT release, alongside his father Chiyaan Vikram.
