The trailer of this year’s much-awaited period film from Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan-1 was launched amid fanfare at a grand event organised in Chennai on Tuesday, 6 September.
Superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan attended as the chief guests. At the event, the makers simultaneously launched the trailer in five languages: Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

The captivating trailers (each of 3 minutes 23 seconds in duration) introduced all the main characters in the period drama based on the Cholas.
It also showcased mesmerising background score by AR Rahman, fascinating artwork by Thota Tharani, stunning action sequences by Kecha Khamphakdee and Sham Kaushal, and awe-inspiring visual effects by NYVFXWaala.
The trailer launch was attended by the bigwigs of the Tamil film industry including Mysskin, Vikram Prabhu, R Partheipan, Jayaram, Kalidas Jayaram and Aditi Rao Hydari, to name a few.
Ponniyin Selvan-1 casts Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and Radhakrishnan Parthiban in crucial roles.
The movie is an adaptation of Kalki’s novel of the same name. Ravi Varman is the cinematographer. Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions are producing it. The film will be released in theatres on 30 September.
