WCC comes out in support of actor Vincy Aloshious

In the wake of actress Vincy Aloshious’s revelation about the drug use and misbehaviour she faced on a film set, the Women in Cinema Collective has come out in strong support of her courage to speak out, calling it a bold reminder of the darker realities haunting the Malayalam film industry.

In a statement, the WCC lauded Vincy for highlighting the widespread issue of alcoholism and drug abuse on sets, which they say often compromises the dignity and safety of women workers.

“She has drawn attention to the naked truth,” the collective said, reiterating the need for safer and more accountable workplaces in the industry.

The WCC emphasised that every film set in Kerala is legally mandated to have an Internal Committee (IC) to address complaints of sexual harassment, as per a Kerala High Court verdict.

The statement further read: “Each one of us working in the Malayalam film industry must ensure that an Internal Committee (IC) is present on the set we are working on and that it is registered on the official portal. It is the producer’s responsibility to accurately inform all members about the composition of the committee. If any complaints related to sexual harassment arise, they should be directed to the IC, and proper action must be ensured.”

“The law defines sexual harassment as not only physical violence, but also any behaviour that causes discomfort to women in the workplace,” the statement added.

Calling for collective responsibility, the WCC urged all film workers to ensure the presence of an IC on their sets and to use the system when needed.
“An efficient IC will empower women to work with dignity and equality,” the statement concluded.

Vincy’s allegations against Shine

Vincy Aloshious, who had previously spoken about being mistreated by a co-actor on a film set, has publicly identified the individual as Shine Tom Chacko.

Vincy has submitted a formal complaint to the film chamber, prompting the chamber’s monitoring committee to schedule an emergency meeting on Monday, 14 April, to address the matter.

Following Vincy’s complaint, Kochi police allegedly raided the hotel in which Shine was staying.

Vincy had earlier posted a video on Instagram describing disturbing on-set behaviour by Shine, including spitting a white powder suspected to be drugs and attempting to fix her costume without consent.
