Tovino Thomas is set to join Mammootty in a new film, directed by debutant Jithin K Jose, according to reports. The Malayalam actor will take on the role originally intended for Prithviraj Sukumaran, who had to withdraw due to other commitments.
This project will commence after Mammootty’s upcoming film with Gautham Menon, who is making his Malayalam directorial debut. The thriller, produced by Mammootty Kampany, features Gokul Suresh, Lena, and Viji Venkatesh. Menon will also appear in Mammootty’s next release, Bazooka.

More details about Jithin K Jose’s project will be confirmed once the shooting begins.
Reflecting on his career growth, Tovino Thomas noted that he has advanced from minor roles and guest appearances to complex characters and lead roles. “If I have the talent and I’m good enough, I believe I’ll have a lasting presence in the industry.”
In an interview, Tovino Thomas expressed that he is drawn to exciting stories and wants to be part of them. He acknowledged that even with “being choosy”, not every film can be a hit, but he trusts his instincts. He also mentioned that he does not adhere to a fixed image.
“I’ve portrayed a wide range of characters, from minor roles to those with complex shades, before moving into lead roles.”
Meanwhile, Mammootty was initially slated to work on a film directed by Mahesh Narayanan, featuring Suresh Gopi, Fahadh Faasil, and Kunchako Boban, but that project has been postponed. Instead, the Malayalam Superstar has joined the Gautham Menon film.
Best known for his directorial work, Gautham Menon has also acted in several Tamil films and Malayalam movies like Trance (2020), Lovefully Yours Veda (2023), Anuragam (2023), and Sesham Mike-il Fathima (2023). His collaboration with Mammootty is speculated to feature Nayanthara as the female lead.
Details about the cast and crew for the new project are still pending.
Mammootty’s recent successes include Turbo (2024), which is now streaming on SonyLIV, and a teaser for Bazooka has also been released.
His recent films—Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, (2022), Rorschach (2022), Kannur Squad (2023), Kaathal: The Core (2023), Bramayugam (2024), and Turbo (2024)—have collectively grossed ₹460 crore.
