Leading Malayalam film editor Nishadh Yusuf was found dead at his residence in Panampilly Nagar, Kochi, during the wee hours of Wednesday, 30 October. He was 43 years old.
While the reason for his death is not yet known, it is suspected to be a case of suicide. The Kerala police are investigating the death.
Nishadh Yusuf, originally hailing from Harippad, is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
According to a report from Manorama, the police shifted Nishadh Yusuf’s mortal remains to the general hospital.
The acclaimed film editor was the winner of the 2022 Kerala State Film Award for Best Editing for Thallumaala.
Known for his impressive work across Malayalam cinema, Yusuf also won the Best Editing Award at the 2023 Critics’ Choice Film Awards.
The editor had also worked on Suirya’s upcoming project Kanguva, which is set to release shortly. Apart from this, he was also working on Mohanlal’s L360 and Mammootty’s Bazooka.
After Kanguva, Nishadh Yusuf also recently took to his social media to announce that he will collaborate with Suriya once again, in the yet-to-be-titled Suriya 45.
Some of his other prominent works include Unda (2019), Operation Java (2021), Saudi Vellakka (2022), and Chaver (2023).
The FEFKA director’s union took to Facebook to express their condolences, they wrote: “The unexpected demise of Nishadh Yusuf, film editor, who played a major role in determining the contemporary future of the changing Malayalam cinema is not something the film world will be able to quickly accept. Condolences from FEFKA Directors’ Union.”
