Thalavan 2 announced

The makers of Thalavan (2024), a super hit investigative thriller headlined by Asif Ali and Biju Menon, have announced the sequel—Thalavan 2.

Actor-filmmaker Dileesh Pothan, who played the character of DYSP Udhayabanu in the first part, announced this update about Thalavan 2 at the 65-day celebrations of the film on Sunday, 21 July.

Kunchacko Boban, Anoop Menon, and directors Lijo Jose Pellissery and Tinu Pappachan graced the event and extended their heartfelt wishes to the team.

Asif Ali and Biju Menon’s Thalavan became a sleeper hit upon its release on 24 May. The audience accepted the investigation thriller directed by Jis Joy with open hearts. The film reportedly grossed over ₹20 crore at the global box office.

It will soon be premiered on SonyLIV in September. However, the makers are yet to confirm the OTT premiere date.

At the 65-day success celebrations, director Jis Joy said he had enough time for Thalavan’s post-production, which helped him deliver a wholesome package. The filmmaker added that though he was popular for making feel-good films, he decided to step out of his comfort zone and grow in his career.

The movie also boasted the successful combination of Asif Ali and Jis Joy, who teamed up earlier for Sunday Holiday (2017) and Vijay Superum Pournamiyum (2019), both super hits.

Further, Asif Ali and Biju Menon’s combination was the major highlight.

Thalavan gave a tough fight to Mammootty’s Turbo, which was released simultaneously. While the former was a sleeper hit, the latter became a blockbuster and marked the return of the superstar to mass movies.

Thalavan was also recognised by Tamil superstar Kamal Hassan, who invited the crew to his Chennai office and congratulated them.

It was produced by Arun Narayan and Sijo Sebastian under the banner of Arun Narayan Productions, in association with London Studios.

The film is set in rural Malabar and features Anusree, Miya George, Dileesh Pothan, Kottayam Nazeer, and Sankar Ramakrishnan in supporting casts.

Sarath Perumbavoor and Anand Thevarakatt wrote the screenplay, Deepak Dev composed the music and Sharan Velayudhan handled the cinematography.

Meanwhile, it is not yet confirmed if Thalavan 2 will have the same cast and crew. More details about the project are awaited.
