Director Major Ravi is quite popular for making films based on the Indian Army. He collaborated with Mohanlal for his debut directorial Keerthi Chakra (2006) and later for Kurukshetra (2008) and Kandahar (2010).
Before venturing into films, he worked for the Indian Army. He assisted Priyadarshan in many movies before donning the hat of a filmmaker.
And now, after a short break, Major Ravi teamed up with Tamil actor R Sarathkumar for a new film titled Operation Raahat and released its teaser on the occasion of the actor’s birthday.
The one-minute-25-second teaser of Operation Raahat begins with heart-rending visuals from war-torn Yemen and a burqa-clad Malayali girl seeking help. And then, the Indian Prime Minister declares over a phone call, “My concern in my citizens.” Just then, Sararthkumar unveils himself saying, “I’m coming for you dammit. You just wait.”
The teaser promises a gritty tale of action that unfolds in Yemen, where Sarathkumar takes up a major rescue operation. In all, Operation Raahat hints at yet another engaging action thriller from Major Ravi.
The movie is based on the real operations launched by the Indian Armed Forces to evacuate Indian citizens and foreign nationals from Yemen during the 2015 military intervention by Saudi Arabia and its allies, which resulted in the Yemen Crisis.
Operation Raahat also stars Malavika Menon and Roy Malamackal in prominent roles. It will be released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
Ashlin Mary Joy and Anup Mohan are producing Operation Raahat under the banner of Presidential Movies International Pvt Ltd. The shooting commenced recently the film is expected to be released this year-end.
The film is scripted by K Krishnakumar, who earlier wrote Jeethu Joseph’s Kooman (2022) and 12th Man (2022). He also scripted Jeethu’s upcoming film Nunakuzhi, headlined by Basil Joseph.
Major Ravi’s son Arjun Ravi is cranking the camera for Operation Raahat, while Ranjin Raj is composing the music and Don Max is handling the editing work.
Meanwhile, Sarathkumar was last seen in the Tamil film Hit List (2024). He is currently busy with Vishnu Manchu’s upcoming big-budget Telugu movie Kannappa and actor Siddharth’s 40th film (Tamil), directed by Sri Ganesh.
The veteran actor became a household name in Malayalam with films like Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja (2009), Christian Brothers (2011), and Bandra (2023). His role (Edachena Kunkan) in Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja drew wide appreciation from the Malayalees.
