Prithviraj seeks name for his football team

Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran and his wife Supriya Menon have invested in Kochi Pipers FC, one of the six football teams participating in the inaugural season of Super League Kerala. The football tournament is scheduled to begin in late August this year.

Super League Kerala has been structured in the format of European football leagues. The tournament will be staged at four stadiums in Kerala and feature foreign players, too.

Six teams from Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Thrissur, and Kannur districts will participate in the football tournament.

After buying stakes in the Kochi Pipers FC, Prithviraj said, “The inaugural season of the League would significantly boost football activities at both professional and grassroots levels in football-enthusiastic Kerala.”

The Aadujeevitham actor also stated that the football league would create numerous opportunities for deserving and upcoming players.

Name sought for football team

Further, Prithviraj Sukumaran took to social media seeking a name for his football team. In his X post, the actor said they are looking for a team name that reflects the spirit of the city and what they are.

He requested football fans and sports enthusiasts to drop their suggestions in the comments.

Mathew Joseph, the CEO of Super League Kerala, felt that Prithviraj Sukumaran’s involvement in the football tournament would inspire and energise the youth who are passionate about the sport.

Supriya Menon said her involvement is aimed at inspiring more female sports enthusiasts to attend the matches in the stadiums.

“Such investments are a boost for Kerala football and the sports economy of our state. More participation from other industries will help the sport grow to its next level,” said Navas Meeran, the President of Kerala Football Association.

On the work front, Prithviraj is working on his third directorial—Empuraan. The film is a sequel to Mohanlal’s 2019 blockbuster hit Lucifer. The shooting is progressing in Gujarat.
